Terms and Conditions

INTRODUCTION:

Perch and Play is a home bird boarding service that I created to give bird owners peace of mind when they can't be there to care for their feathered pets. Unlike large boarding facilities, your bird will receive personalized attention from me or a family member. As a home business, I provide round-the-clock care, unlike facilities with limited hours. I also have limited space, which means your bird won't be overcrowded and at risk of illness. You can trust that your feathered friend will receive the attention they deserve while staying with me.

GENERAL ADMISSION:

I reserve the right to deny admission if your bird shows up at day of drop-off sick to the point I feel it will not survive by the time you arrive for pick up.  A waiver may be signed stating you understand this and I am not responsible if your bird passes while you are away.

Birds that have a contagious disease that risk the health and life of other birds boarding with me will not be admissible for boarding.   I am unable to board your bird if it is taking medication for a viral disease.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but I believe that this is the best way to protect the health of all of the birds in my care

There may be criminal implications if someone lies about their pet not having a contagious disease when boarding their pet. The specific criminal charges that could be filed will vary, but they could include:

  • Animal cruelty

  • Fraud

  • Negligence

In addition to criminal charges, the owner of the pet with the contagious disease could also be sued by myself, or other pet owners who suffered financial losses or whose pets became ill as a result of the owner's dishonesty.

I will board your bird if it is on anti-bacterial or anti-fungal medication for a crop infection.  I am also able to administer oral pain relief if your bird requires it as prescribed by your vet due to an injury.

For the safety and well-being of other birds accompanying me, I am unable to allow a bird with parasites to board, even if it is undergoing treatment.

If a bird is boarding with me and is not picked up by the owner within 14 days after the pick-up date, or if the owner does not keep me informed of their whereabouts or status then it will be assumed that the owner has disowned the bird and it therefore becomes my property.  I reserve the right to take any necessary action to re-home the bird and any amounts owing to me will be recovered as a small claim through the local courts.

Health Exam

Please consult your avian veterinarian for your bird's. health.  All birds are to be regularly examined by their vet at least once a year.  Although I will not insist on you producing documentary evidence that your bird has been seen by a vet and is healthy, I will not be held liable should any unforeseen circumstances occur.

VETERINARY TREATMENT:

If your pet requires veterinary treatment, it will be at the pet owner’s expense. Payment of veterinary treatment is due at the time of pick-up of your bird.  In the case where the owner or the emergency contact cannot be contacted before treatment, the course of treatment shall be at the sole discretion of the attending Veterinarian. In the case where an incident or an illness has occurred and a pet is going through unnecessary pain and considered as inhumane to continue, and no contact with the owner or the emergency contact can be established, the Veterinarian has the permission to euthanize the pet.  I will be indemnified from any liability.

If your pet requires any medication, precise written instructions, including the dosage is required. The medication is to be clearly labelled. There will be no additional charge for giving your bird additional attention and an increased level of care, if required in unique circumstances. However, although I will do my best best,  I will not be held liable if any unforeseen circumstances occur such as your bird passing away as a result of an illness.

Playtime

During their stay with me, your bird will have the opportunity for one-on-one playtime. I understand that some birds may be more aggressive or uncooperative, so the extent of playtime will vary depending on each bird's behavior and preferences.

FOOD:

To ensure your bird's dietary preferences are met, please bring their own food and enough for the entire duration of their stay. I will not feed your bird anything that has not been approved by you. I understand that most birds are picky eaters, and introducing new foods can often be met with resistance or refusal.

ITEMS SUPPLIED BY THE OWNER:

Please bring your own cage and toys that your bird enjoys playing with. If you have a blanket to cover the cage at night, that's great - feel free to bring it along. However, if you don't have one or forget to bring it, there's no need to worry. I have plenty of blankets available.

Payment

After you submit your boarding request, you will receive a response from me regarding the availability of space and a boarding quote. If you agree with the charges, you will receive an invoice that can be conveniently paid online. The invoice will include a due date, typically set 24 hours before your scheduled drop-off date.

While I prioritize the utmost care when boarding your bird, in the event of an unforeseen incident or any concerns that may arise, I will promptly contact the owners. Your peace of mind is important to me, and I will keep you informed throughout your bird's stay in our care.
